Data Literacy for Social Change provides training for nonprofit organizations on how to use data to advance their mission and evaluate programming. If you’re interested in knowing how well your program is being implemented, we’ve got you covered. If you want more clarity around your program’s outcomes, we’re here to support you with that, too. And if we can’t meet your data literacy training needs, we will refer to you to other resources that can. For example, if you work with libraries, reach out to the Research Institute for Public Libraries. They provide training specifically for library workers who want to use data.
Training topics are organized around inquiry, insight, and action.
- INQUIRY: Evaluative thinking, theory of change and logic models, program evaluation
- INSIGHT: Data collection and analysis, culturally-specific approaches, community-driven methods, using analytic software, data visualization
- REFLECTION AND ACTION: How to move from insight into action

Coaching
We provide one-on-one coaching to take your skills with data to the next level. Our approach is guided by your interests, your current proficiency level, and other factors that you think are important to develop your knowledge and skills for using data. We also explore your attitudes and beliefs to uncover (and move through) any barriers that might hold you back from using data to advance your mission and evaluate your programming.
Workshops and Retreats
Workshops and retreats are customized in-person or online gatherings where you and your team can develop specific skills. Deeper dive topics could include how to use software for data collection and analysis, inquiry approaches, and building a data culture. Our workshops are designed around your subject-matter expertise and what you would like to learn.
